eggs

This is our very first egg that our chickens laid. It is nestled amongst store bought white eggs. You can see it is a little smaller and a lovely brown color. We were so excited! Now we are getting the most beautiful blue eggs from our two Ameraucana chicks. The brown eggs come from our four Rhode Island Reds. We get an average of 3 to 4 eggs a day. Typically more brown than blue. We got off to a rough start with these girls, but they are proving to be a very welcome addition to our flock. Belle on the other hand is not fond of the chickens at all. She needs a big brother escort any time she is outside. It is quite common for her to be screaming her head off whenever she is outside. I am catching the self reliance bug, but I don't think we'll get a cow anytime soon. It is cool not to have to buy eggs. Life on the farm is good.
