Hello there. It has been a while... a long while. Lots has been going on here at the Habel house, and it is all documented somewhere in the recesses of my mind. Honestly I don't know if I could get caught up. I am busy working on our annual blog book with has kind of just become a family journal and the blog has kind of gone by the way side. However the book will be super cool! Anyhow...I was making my weekly menu up and when I came to Sunday I came across a little bit of a stumbling block and I wondered if anyone else has hit this bump in the road either. Here is the hurdle I am leaping over, What do I fix for mother's day dinner? Do I fix mother's day dinner? What do you do about this dilemma? I am curious and confident that you have opinions, suggestions, recipes, in sites and plans for how your mother's day dinner is going to go down. So tell me. This seems to be a reoccurring hurdle. Really I should know how to deal with this one, after all I have been a mother for 13 years now, but apparently this journal entry was documented in the recesses of my mind.
So hurry and let me know, because I have got to get to the store.

I usually "check-out" on mother's day and Scott just comes up with something (pancakes, or pancakes, or one year it was fried rice). I don't really care too much, just as long as I am not in the kitchen!
But this year will be tricky because Sunday is also Scott's birthday. We may split it up though, and celebrate his bday on Saturday.
On Saturday, have Mark pick up a Papa Murphy's pizza and stick it in the fridge. Have the kids whip up a salad on Sunday afternoon and you are good to go! VERY casual but at least you didn't have to cook ;)
I have the same problem as you -- I don't remember what we have done in the past. This year BOTH of our mothers will be here (pressure!!!) but we have church and then the baptism, so we are doing a baked potato/salad bar. I figure the prep is minimal and it can be thrown together quickly. I will probably pick up a cheesecake or something since the wholf famdamily will be here. It is also Jillise's birthday. Criminy. What was I thinking???
on Sunday morning just announce that your are taking the day off. They will figure it out:)
Well, since it will be Mother's Day and Logan's birthday...I think Kelly will be grilling something for dinner:) But, in reality I'll probably do most of the cooking...just being real:)
I let Dan have the kitchen- but went the kids were little it was a bit more tricky- sometimes I would fix something on Sat. that could be warmed up by all the loving children for their Mother on Sunday- But most times Dan took the lead-
Good luck-
I pretty much refuse to cook on Mother's day. I usually decide what I want for dinner and make sure Paul has all the ingredients. Unless my mom is coming over, and then I cook.
I was just wondering the same thing and I've been a mother for almost 21 years! Since it's Caylin's birthday too, and we're having the family birthday party here...I'm hoping I can get a Costco cake and let the rest of the family take care of the rest of it. (and it seems like May 10th was a popular day to be born :)
I leave it up to Tim. It usually means we BBQ something--but that is always yummy. I like Jodi's idea. Easy on everyone.
My kids do the cooking but this year we are doing it on Monday not Sunday. I ALWAYS cook on Sundays so it is nice to have them do it for us. I never complaina nd just eat whatever gets put together. The older they get the beeter the meals have become:)
May 10th is a busy Birthday day! It is also my Sister in law Wendy's birthday.
I say that you let the kids be creative. Alyna will make sure that something special is done. Just tell her you need a list from her so you can pick up any needed ingredients from the store and let her orchestrate the whole thing while you lay down for a long leisurely nap:)
