December 2009...

MEMORIES OF CHRISTMAS 2009
Write letters to Santa…

Read from your favorite Christmas story…checking out several Christmas books from the library is a tradition I learned from Christy. We have read lots of our favorites.

Have a late night cookie & milk break…I have had plenty of treats today, but I think I will savor the dark chocolate chocolate chip cookies that Marie sent home with me today and have a glass of milk and snuggle under a blanket for a bit and think about what Christmas time means to me.

Sing Christmas songs before bed…every night Belle and I sing Josie to sleep.

Watch a Christmas movie with popcorn…12.04.09 we watched Elf and made a warm batch of Carmel corn after school.

Cuddle under a blanket…:0)!

Go out somewhere special for dinner…Mark and I have bewent to Thai Orchid twice prior to Christmas shopping trips. YUMMO!

Bake and take gifts to neighbors, this year I made fudge, baklava, white chocolate popcorn and magic bars. We have such delightful neighbors; I hope to get to know them better in 2010.

Play board games…The kids have been playing “Don’t eat snow man Sam” and Sorry Sliders.

Make cards for teachers…Caleb and Calvin made cards for their teachers and Alyna made caramel corn for her friends and some teachers. I am so grateful for their teachers and all that they do for these cute kids of ours.

Offer to help someone who needs it at the grocery store…I like to look for people that need their cart returned and take it back into the store for them.

Sleep under the Christmas tree… we celebrated the winter solstice 12.21.09 by sleeping under the tree. This is becoming my favorite tradition. I so enjoy watching the kids make up their beds and gather up their snuggly blankets. This year we read the Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey, it is one of my favorite Christmas stories.
Gaze at the winter stars…12.03.09 before I went to bed I took a minute to go to each window and enjoy the beautiful winter evening. It was a clear cold night with a bright full moon, so bright that only the brightest stars were visible. When I went to my bedroom window I discovered two deer grazing in the moonlight. It was serene.

Address your Christmas cards…CHECK! I addressed envelopes early in the month but didn’t send them out until the 23rd and I still have a few to put in the mail.

Warm yourself by a roaring fire…mmmm snuggly! I love a nice warm fire.
Cut out paper snowflakes… Ginger spent Monday afternoon teaching the kids how to make snowflakes, she always bring magic with her.

Adopt a new tradition… this year as part of our Christmas Eve celebration we put Josie to bed a little bit early and played a game of UNO with the other kids. It was hilarious! After we were done we opened and read all of the Christmas cards we had received from family and friends. It was wonderful and I tried really hard not to be a cry baby, but my emotions always seem to get the best of me. I miss my family at Christmas time. Sigh.
Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate with a friend…Candy & I enjoyed a cup of Cho together. There is a little part of me that misses RS presidency meetings, that always required a stop at the hot chocolate log house.

Volunteer…we volunteered to take Ginger to the airport, does that count. It was strange not to have her with us for Christmas. This was the first Christmas we have not had any company.

Take a car ride to look at Christmas lights and decorations…12.03.09 after Scouts we drove around and found that with the dry weather we have had, that lots of people have their Christmas lights up. It was beautiful.

Go caroling in your neighborhood or at a local nursing home… Calvin, Belle, Josie and I went with Caleb and his Cub Scout troop. It was wonderful!

Dress up for a special Christmas dinner at your own house…I consider spaghetti already to be a very special dinner and I did dress up, in my PJ’s. :0)

Write a list of 100 things you are grateful for… I am counting my "Thankful 4" list 4*25= 100.
Make homemade soup…the power went out one afternoon and Alyna made Chicken noodle soup on the wood stove. The power came back on and we were a little sad. However, the soup was delicious.

Attend a Christmas concert…12.09) the little girls and I attended Caleb’s music concert. Calvin and his class were there too. 12.12) we all attended Ginger’s concert and then had dinner at Denny’s. 12.19) The Christmas Sacrament meeting program was also a beautiful concert.

Watch the snow fall…the first snow fell on our way home from Ginger’s concert. Magical! We also watched the snow fall on the 29th, four inches fell. It was fun to play in, but we mostly liked looking at it from inside.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

What a great month! I must say thank you from all of us Utah folks because we LOVED having Ginger with us! We wished that your family could have joined, but it was a special treat for you to share her with us. :-)
