Snap shot

January 2010...

01.01
My project life kit came in the mail on December 29... but I waited until 01.01.2010 to open it. Just because I am like that.

01.02

Happy Birthday Dan!

01.03

Deep cleaned the kitchen cabinetry...Josie helped!

01.04
Enjoyed the warm glow of sunset.

01.05)
The kids went back to school today. We had a great Christmas vacation and while I was ready for them to go back to school, a little bit I wasn't.
I miss them when they're away.
01.06
Josie loves apples... until it is time to swallow them and then, not so much. After tiring of apple bits everywhere, we have trained her to either spit them in the trash in a little container.
Am I brilliant or what?! Or what? Whatever!

01.14
I am recommiting to my 72 hour kits... to organizing, to rotating, to creating and updating, to gathering, to memorizing ....etc....etc.
Thank you RS activity commitee. I have been inspired!

01.17
Started my 4th Body for Life week.
01.18
Both Caleb and Calvin were cast in Missoula Childrens Theater. WOOHOO!!! They were TOTALLY and COMPLETELY thrilled to be in real a play.
01.20
Happy Birthday Grandma Bell! I love you and think that you are wonderful.
Amazing.
Generous.
Kind.
An excellant cook.
a fabulous story teller.
Beautiful.
Especially in curlers.
Faithful.
I could go on and on.
and on... I love you!
01.22
Laughed out loud when my sweet Caleb busted a move in his super too small costume and delighted the croud in an otherwise dull production based loosely...very loosly on the book Robinson Crusoe.

01.22
Gave into Calvin's frequent requests for a T*shirt. Honestly it is tough to say no to those beautiful brown eyes. Who can resist a hulu dancing chamilleon?

01.26

I have a thing for sharpened pencils. And perfectly sharpened colored pencils. (Sigh)

01.27

A little yard cleanup and discovery of new life really helps me get through the dark, dreary north west winter.

01.29
Happy Birthday Mom! I still miss you...imagine I always will. I love you and I barely know you. I look forward to knowing you and loving you again someday. Crazy how even after 30 years my heart longs for you. Crazy. Thank you for chosing me the best daddy in the whole world. We both love and miss you...same but different.
Mark and I spent the evening in the temple with our ward family and it was wonderful...perfect...just exactly what I needed.
01.30
A herd of balloons wandered into our field and Mark and the kids took aim!
(Mark you are AWESOME! XOXO)

01.31
Attempted PW Chicken Fried Steak.
I love to eat Chicken Fried Steak.
I do NOT love to prepare Chicken Fried Steak.
I definately DO NOT love to clean up my kitchen after preparing Chicken Fried Steak.
I will happily pay someone else to prepare it for me.
And clean up after me.
Anyone know where I can get a good Chicken Fried Steak?
PW will you be in Oregon anytime soon?

Epiphany on the month: With 3 daughters I think I may need a locking closet door. :0)

Post Script:
I find LOTS of Alyna's self portaits on my camera. I think that is her way of saying "hey mom...look at me...eyes on me"! I love you Alyna. You are charming.

A bit from the 01.2010 Vting message.

“‘Self-reliance means using all of our blessings from Heavenly Father to care for ourselves and our families and to find solutions for our own problems.’ Each of us has a responsibility to try to avoid problems before they happen and to learn to overcome challenges when they occur. …
“How do we become self-reliant? We become self-reliant through obtaining sufficient knowledge, education, and literacy; by managing money and resources wisely, being spiritually strong, preparing for emergencies and eventualities; and by having physical health and social and emotional well-being.”

Julie B. Beck, Relief Society general president.

With that my dear friends and family you have a snapshot of life on the farm. All is swell!

*Yes chicken fried steak is a mess . . . as well as just about everything else in PW's cookbook!
*I love the idea of using balloons for target practice. The boys got a BB gun for christmas and thinks we should use the neighborhood birds as practice. Um, no.
*Josie looks stylin' in those boots. Have I seen you in them? Very cute.
*Love your little snapshot of life!

What a wonderful idea to document it now. I'm a little worried about our craft night when I am supposed to magically recall specific dates.

And for Shannon---wasn't there one bird in particular a few years back who could have been used for target practice???

Jen I loved your post. I always get ideas from your family activities. This summer (family reunion at the ranch) we are definitely going to get the BB Guns out and have the kids shoot balloon – Great Idea. You also had some awesome snapshots - so fun to look at - and they definitely show off your cute personality.

Love the pictures! Good luck finding some good chicken fried steak. I finally gave up trying PW's recipes-I can never get them to look as good as she does. :D
And I laughed about the pencils-because I am the same way! I once had a friend give me 24 perfectly sharpened pencils for my birthday, and I was delighted!

Oh man, I'm afraid I haven't been as good at staying on top of it as you have!
