Yesterday was a crazy day. Since the kids didn't have school Alyna had a friend over to work on a power point project for school. My printer is on the fritz so they decided to work on it up at the shop. I didn't call them in for lunch figuring that they would come down when they were done or hungry. After lunch I had Josie at the sink to wash her hands and discovered that the pads of two of her fingers had large blisters on them and on closer inspection there were two burns on her hands. Oh my goodness my heart sank. First that she had burned herself and second because I was just discovering it. She had been a little cranky, but I just attributed it to her cold. I spent the next half an hour getting a hold of, and talking with our pediatrician. All the while I had a nagging feeling that the girls needed to leave the shop. So about 1:00 I started getting ready to take the kids to ice cream and shopping at Freddie's. I was in the shower when two phone calls came, one was Mark so I called him back. He said that he had gotten word that the police were searching the woods near our house for a man who had a rifle and had taken a shot at his mother very near our house, and that he thought I should leave. WHAT???? You don't have to tell me twice. I stayed pretty calm, and yet I could feel the adrenaline kick in. I called Alyna at the shop and told her that it was time to go. The girls came down and helped me get the little kids ready. I didn't tell her anything was going on, but she was on to me because I was in a really big hurry to go. We locked everything up and headed out. I ran back in to grab a bottle for Josie and there was a message from the police department updating us about what was going on. I am so glad I was the only one in the house to hear that message. Looking back I can't believe the girls walked down from the shop by themselves with a weirdo out in our woods, but I really didn't think of that until we went to pull out of the garage and I cringed. I thought if I could just get away from the house then all would be well and the kids wouldn't have to know and get scared. No such luck. Just past our drive way were a news crew, a variety of police cars and several officers. All the kids noticed believe me because action like that just doesn't happen everyday in these parts. So on came the questions. I tried to play dumb...again no luck. At the next intersection were a police car and an ambulance. Now everyone wanted to know what was going on. I stopped and rolled down my window and asked if everything was okay. Not really a smart choice because all my kids heard was "armed" and "suspect". Great! So I spilled the beans, told them what was really going on, answered their questions as best I could and took them to ice cream. We were safe and sound and yet still a little alarmed. I called Mark and asked what time he would be home. Unfortunately not until 10:00pm! Oh my goodness, what in the world was I going to do until 10:00? No way was I going home until that guy was caught and who knows how long that was going to take. While we were at Freddie's a friend had seen the news and called to see if we were alright. Bless you my friend. We picked up pizza and headed to her house for dinner. When we arrived she had gotten word the the suspect had surrendered and was in custody. WHEW, What a relief! To top it off while we were eating dinner her little boy gagged on pizza and threw up. Poor boy! Goodness, what a day! We went home, Mark arrived home shortly after and we were all safe and sound. Sigh!
Although it was a really weird day, it was a very interesting day. I believe that there are sentinels that watch over our home and through the experiences of this day, I truly felt watched over and warned by the spirit. I will be more responsive to the spirit next time, and yet I appreciate they way I was guided and comforted and watched over.

Oh goodness, what a day- I so glad to hear that you and your family are safe- bless your friend for helping.
How scary! I'm that you guys were safe!
I had no idea that happened out by you guys. So scary! Glad that everyone was safe and sound!
wow, jenn! What a scary day! I'm so glad you made it out safe & sound and you had a place to go to. It's true that those nudgings of the spirit come when we least expect it and sometimes leave us wondering - is this for real, or am I just being crazy? :) I think the Lord knows this and so thankfully He will work through many people to help protect us.
Oh Jenn...what a scary day! SO glad everyone is safe and sound and that the crazy guy has been caught! Love you.
I was just getting ready to blog about this, too! I couldn't believe it was so close to home. I got the call to inform me of what was going on, and was told to get inside quickly and stay away from the windows. Hearing this WHILE my kids were outside playing stopped my heart. I ran outside and yelled for them to get in quick, and then struggled as you did to explain why or not. I finally did, and since we were getting ready to leave soon anyways I just decided to leave a little sooner! I was told that the suspect was up that road, and that originally he started out by our house where he tried to shoot his mother! I'm thankful for friends that warned me, and that my boys were safe and sound, and most importantly that he got CAUGHT! Scary day for sure.
That would definitely be scarey.
BTW, don't feel to bad about Josie burning her hand w/o you knowing. Whitney did the same thing a couple of months ago. I didn't notice her's either until later when I saw a huge blister on the palm of her hand. Luckily it healed up just fine and she stays well away from the woodstove now.
Wow--crazy stuff. I am glad that he surrendered and that you were all safe.
I thought about you that night. We heard sirens all day and didn't really know what was going on until the evening. When I watched the 10:00 news I saw Tami and Clayton's yard and wondered how you did. Glad everything turned out OK.
