Life on the farm

Life on the farm lends itself to many unique and interesting experiences. A few Saturdays ago the boys learned a little about stacking wood. When they were done with that they headed down to check out the chicken carcase they found earlier in the day. One of the chickens got left out, giving us a great opportunity to have a lesson about the food chain. And now after poking around at the chicken carcase for a good long while, these boys know a lot about the insides of a chicken. Even though it may be disgusting, I completely enjoy watching these boys soak up the great outdoors.

Note: they are using a stick and wearing gloves.

We used to have friends over when dad cut off the chickens' heads and we loved to watch them flop all over the yard, headless. Then, we would all gather around the table as dad plucked and gutted the chickens. Our favorite part was opening up the gizzard and seeing the rocks inside which help digest their food! There is nothing like the education you gain from the real world. But I'm not really sure how that knowledge has helped me as of late!
