Accidents Happen

So, a few days ago I posted pictures of my sweet little Calvin with a perfect little toothless grin.  So sweet.  Well today we momentarily went back to that look.  Here is the story.  I had the carpets cleaned today, which was splendid, but when the kids came home from school they were going to get ready to go to the track with Mark and it didn't even occur to me how slippery the tile would be if you were stepping onto it from still wet stairs.  But those tiles were like ice and Calvin came bolting down the stairs and slipped and whacked his month on the tile floor.  It was an awful sound and such a sad sight.  When he came up his mouth was of course bleeding and on closer inspection exposed a gap in his front teeth where both of his front teeth had chipped.  Lucky for me, Mark was home and is WAY more calm and collected.  He got the ice while I got on the phone.  Also lucky that the two chips of tooth were on the floor.  We bagged them up and Mark headed into Portland with my sweet Calvin, who was so brave and so calm even though he was scared.  What a tender moment it is to comfort a hurt child, how small and tender they seem, how strong their faith is.
I was so worried seeing as these are his permanent teeth but all is well that ends well.  Our outstanding dentist was able to reattach the chips and patch them back together so that you would never ever know.  AMAZING! A Blessing to be sure.  Such a relief!!   Thank you Mark for being so strong and stable.  Thank you kids for sitting with me at the table and sharing your concern, thank you Calvin for being brave!  And darling!!

Oh my goodness! Poor, poor boy. :( That's amazing that they could patch the chips back onto his teeth - I didn't know they could do that. And thank goodness for husbands who are home at just the right time!

Oh no! It is the toughest thing to be the mom watching our little guys get hurt. I suppose it never gets easier either. I'm so glad they were able to fix his teeth for him.
